This twelve-hour day stacks three very different Samaná experiences into one booking: a boat trip into the bay to look for humpback whales, a walk across the pedestrian bridges on the town waterfront, and an ATV ride through the countryside to Playa El Valle. The order matters. Whales come first, then lunch in town, then the bridges, and only after that does the ATV portion begin with a safety briefing, helmet fitting and driving orientation.
The whale-watching leg is guided by a local guide with a captain and crew, and life jackets are provided. What you might see depends entirely on the whales: mothers with calves, blows, tail flukes, pectoral-fin slapping, tail slapping, breaching and social groups are all possible, but nothing is guaranteed because these are wild animals. Lunch is a traditional Dominican meal, typically rice, beans, chicken or fish, salad, plantains and seasonal sides, though the menu rotates by day.
The ATV ride to El Valle beach passes through local communities, palm and coconut plantations, rural roads and mountain scenery before arriving at a beach ringed by green hills. Free time there covers swimming, walking, photos and drinks when available. A Dominican lunch is included, along with water during selected parts of the excursion; alcohol, tips, extra food at the beach and hotel transfer (unless selected) are not. Bring swimwear, a towel, closed-toe shoes and sun protection.
A few practical points will shape how this day goes, from footwear to what counts as included.
Common issues. The main limit is the one the operator states plainly: whale behavior cannot be guaranteed, so some trips see more than others. Hotel pickup is not included unless selected, which catches out travellers who assume door-to-door service. Alcohol, tips, beach chairs where privately operated, and extra food and drinks at El Valle Beach all cost extra. The day is also long at twelve hours across three activities, which may not suit travellers wanting a relaxed pace or anyone uncomfortable driving an ATV on rural roads.
The whale-watching boat excursion with a local guide, captain, crew and life jacket is included, as is the Dominican lunch, the guided waterfront and bridges walk, the ATV with helmet and guide, the visit to El Valle Beach, and drinking water during selected parts of the excursion. Alcohol, tips, personal purchases, privately operated beach chairs and extra food or drinks at the beach are not included.
No, hotel pickup is not included for this tour unless you select it as an option. The meeting point is Zabora Bistro, Av. La Marina, Samaná 32000, Dominican Republic. Arrange your own transport to the waterfront if you have not selected a transfer.
Yes, a traditional Dominican lunch is included after the boat trip. Depending on the day's menu it may include rice, beans, chicken or fish, salad, plantains and seasonal sides. Any additional food or drinks at El Valle Beach are paid separately.
The full tour runs about twelve hours. It covers whale watching, lunch, the bridges walk and the ATV ride to El Valle Beach with free time there, so plan for a full day.
Bring sunglasses, a hat, swimwear, a towel, a camera, sunscreen, comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. Closed-toe shoes are the practical choice for the ATV. Alcohol and drugs are not allowed.
Yes, you can cancel up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund. Keep in mind that whale sightings cannot be guaranteed on any departure.
